A group of psychiatrists toured an insane asylum
that was renowned for its progressive rehabilitation
methods. They began by visiting some of the patients.
The first patient they visited was a young woman
who was practicing ballet. One of the psychiatrists
asked,”What are you doing, dear?”She replied, “I’m
studying ballet so that when I get out of here I can
possibly join a dance troupe and be a productive member
of society.”Wow, that’s wonderful!” said the psychiatrist.
The next person was a man reading a book with a pile of
other books next to him. When asked what he was doing, he
replied, “I’m studying biology, chemistry and other sciences
so I can enter medical school when I get out.Room after room,
they witnessed the incredible successes and attitudes of the
patients.Finally, they reached a room the asylum’s director
was reluctant to open, but the psychiatrists persuaded him.
Inside was a man balancing a peanut on his penis.One
psychiatrist asked, “My God, what are you doing?
“The man replied, “I’m fucking nuts and I’m never
getting out of here.”
